Maestro, the newest foundation by Giorgio Armani, has been dubbed the Revolutionary Complexion Perfecter for good reason. Launching exclusively in Canada at Holt Renfrew, the new foundation has been eight years in the making and introduces a brand new face makeup category into the market. The new formula masterfully satisfies every woman’s paradoxical skin desires in one bottle: transparency and coverage. The new formula is light and silky (no makeup feel guaranteed) but also expertly covers imperfections.
Holt Renfrew had the chance to sit down with Linda Cantello, International Makeup Artist for Giorgio Armani and the woman credited for having created the first smokey eye in the ‘90s, to test the new complexion perfecter and get the inside scoop.
HR: How is Maestro different from other foundations?
Cantello: It’s not a foundation. It’s a complexion perfecter. A whole new generation of makeup that feels incredible, looks invisible and makes skin appear luminous every time. Anyone can wear it. It’s completely brand new and there’s nothing else like it.
HR: Choosing the right foundation is a difficult task for many people. What is your advice to choosing the right shade?
Cantello: Unlike traditional foundations, the Maestro is adapted for all skin tones around the world. The smart pigments are so fine that they fuse with the natural skin colour making it very easy to match any skin tone. It may seem strange that only a few shades cover a whole range of skin tones but it becomes possible with the transparency of the Maestro formula and makes selecting the perfect shade easy. I would recommend playing with the shades in the store, and always get a second opinion, the Armani associates are there to help you find the exact match.
HR: Do you have any tips or tricks for applying?
Cantello: The drop-by-drop application makes it easy to apply; just a few drops and you have a matte and luminous finish. The elliptical bottle and luxurious, black lacquered dropper is perfect for custom-controlled makeup application.
HR: What is a key beauty look for fall?
Cantello: For fall, there are a lot of dark burgundies, and dark reds for the lips in matte finishes.
HR: What it like working with Mr. Armani to create beauty looks each season?
Cantello: We can’t wait for the clothes to be made to be inspired from them because the products have to be produced so much further in advance. When we do the show, we take the collection that we’ve developed with us and hope Mr. Armani approves the pallet. If he doesn’t, we have a travelling lab with us and we tweak it on site. For example, we didn’t have a bright lip shade made for spring, but when we were shooting the clothes it just called for it. So I went ahead with our kit and made it. Our collection has a lot of flexibility and we can edit it based on the clothes.
